National Flute Association - inspiring flutists, enriching lives

The National Flute Association is seeking an operations intern to assist with preparation for the NFA’s annual convention in Portland, OR, August, 2026. More information about the NFA is available on the website: NFAonline.org.

This internship is in two parts. Participation in both parts is required.

May 11-July 31: 8 hours per week, located at the NFA office, downtown Chicago
August 4-10: up to 8 hours per day, at the NFA convention, Portland, OR

Applicants age 22 or younger living in the Chicago area are eligible to apply.
This internship is funded by a Youth Employment in the Arts (YEA) Grant from the Illinois Arts Council.

This internship is for undergraduate students; arts administration, music education, music and flute students at the bachelors level are encouraged to apply. Graduate and doctoral students are not eligible to apply.

NOTE: Applications for convention-only internships are accepted via a separate process, opening in March, 2026. Applications for the convention portion of the office-convention internship only will not be accepted or reviewed.

Part 1: In-Office, Chicago, May 11 – July 31
The Office intern will gain hands-on experience in a variety of key areas, including convention planning and general administration. Specific areas include assisting with preparation of merchandise and materials for the NFA booth, including NFA books and products; preparing attendee materials, preparing scores and handouts for some convention sessions, writing informational material for convention attendees, and general administration.

The office intern must be located within commuting distance of the downtown office in Chicago for the duration of the office internship. Hours are during regular office hours Monday – Friday as agreed with NFA staff. The intern works primarily with the Operations Manager.

Part 2: At the Convention (Portland, OR, August 4 – August 10, 2026)
The intern will join the NFA admin team in Portland, OR, for the convention.

Duties during this part of the internship will include the following:

Preparing and setting up the NFA lounge in the exhibit hall, with the Operations Manager
Inventory management
Duties at the NFA lounge
Archival work
Artists services
General administration with the NFA staff team

The following skills are preferred for this internship:

Ability to lift 30 lbs
Writing ability
Attention to detail
Organizational skills
Clear communication ability
Music knowledge
