The Learning & Community Program Manager is responsible for working with the department Director/Senior Manager to plan and implement all Learning & Community programs. This position creates and maintains strong relationships with educators and community organizations in order to optimally serve the larger Southeastern Michigan area.

The position will also assist in research into best education and engagement practices in the performing arts to evaluate how programs are best serving the community. This position supervises the A2SO’s Volunteers, Ushers, and Learning & Community Assistants for all mainstage and pops concerts, in addition to assisting with general office duties.

Essential Duties and responsibilities:

Learning and Community Program Manager
-Organize the planning, implementation and evaluation of the following programs: Senior Chamber Series, KinderConcerts, and Instrument Petting Zoos
– Assist in the planning, implementation and evaluation of the following programs: A2SO @ School, Meet the Maestro, Public Chamber Series, Link Up Youth Concert, Farmers Markets, Play It Forward, Young Artist Competition, additional special events and initiatives
– Cultivate and grow community partnerships with local teachers, school administrators, libraries, farmers markets, hospitals, senior living communities, etc.
– Communicate with local venues about program needs and expectations
– Schedule Learning & Community Assistants for all events as needed
– Collaborate with the Marketing Department to keep all department website information and marketing materials up to date
– Required attendance of the first and last A2SO Board meeting of the season, as well as recommended attendance at all others, unless otherwise cleared with the Executive Director or in the case of sickness or an emergency
– Willingness to stretch beyond basic job expectations for the overall mission and to support organizational goals
– Other responsibilities as needed by the Executive Director

Front of House Coordinator
– Recruit and organize ushers for all Mainstage, Pops, and Youth concerts
– Liaise onsite with venue staff and House Managers for all concerts
– Collaborate with the Artistic Operations Department for all concert day logistics including equipment set up, pre-concert activities, etc.
– Required attendance at all MainStage and Pops concerts scheduled throughout the season, unless otherwise cleared with the Executive Director or in the case of sickness or an emergency
– Assign volunteers for office duties such as mailings, postcards, and other responsibilities as needed
– Collaborate across all departments to assist in the annual Learning & Community Fundraising Gala

Required Qualifications:
– Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree in music, music education or arts management or equivalent. Previous relevant work experience may substitute for any education requirements.
– Strong written and verbal skills
– Must be available and flexible to work nights and weekends
– Ability to build and sustain relationships with patrons, educators, parents, students, volunteers, musicians, staff, conductors, and guest performers
– Excellent customer service skills
– Ability to work effectively and gracefully under pressure and in a small team environment
– Valid driver’s license and good driving record required

Preferred Qualifications:
– Previous experience as a music educator (either as a school teacher, lesson instructor, or in another setting)
– Experience with applications within the G Suite and Microsoft Office
– Experience with CRM software (Theatre Manager, Spektrix or Tessitura), finance software (QuickBooks), and digital design software (Canva)

– Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up 40 lbs regularly
– Capacity to stand, walk, sit, bend, kneel, or crouch for extended periods
– Fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination required for repetitive tasks, typing, or playing musical instruments
– Vision and hearing capabilities needed for safety and task execution
– Ability to work in varying conditions, such as extreme temperatures, loud noises, or confined spaces
