Overview

Summary:
The Group Sales Representative acts as the primary contact for all aspects of group sales for the Houston Symphony, contributing to the overall single ticket revenue goal. This position is responsible for exploring and implementing opportunities to generate and grow group sales revenue from both new and existing accounts. The Representative provides an exceptional level of customer service and optimization of the patron experience, along with a desire and capacity to work as part of a results-driven team.

Essential Job Functions:
• Meet or exceed annual Group Sales revenue goal for all Houston Symphony concerts
• Develop and manage a detailed group sales season plan to meet revenue goals—including, but not limited to activities like targeted emails, season-at-a-glance mailings, flyers, trade show participation, cultivation events at concerts
• Prospect and research organizations and groups to generate group business
• Explore and implement creative opportunities to grow group sales revenue from new and existing clients
• Conduct and track an agreed upon number of outbound calls and in-person visits each week
• Cultivate partnerships with community contacts (churches, schools, travel operators, affinity groups, retirement homes, hotel and apartment concierges, etc.)
• Evaluate group sales pricing and discounts with Senior Director, Marketing & Sales
• Manage the entire group sales process with a high level of customer service—create proposals and letters of agreement, conduct site visits, collect payment, coordinate mailing of tickets or scanning of tickets onsite at event, provide day-of group support
• Facilitate add-on events in conjunction with group ticket purchases, including meet-and-greets with musicians and performances opportunities (in collaboration with the Symphony’s education department)
• Establish and maintain relationships with clientele through customer service, cultivation and regular communication
• Create group sales accounts in Tessitura database in accordance with Houston Symphony data standards; add notes within accounts to track conversations
• Manages group sales ticket inquiries from the Houston Symphony website and Patron Services Center phone line
• Work concerts as needed to support onsite group visits (involving evening/weekend hours)
• Perform additional duties as required by the Houston Symphony Society

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required, with at least one year of sales experience in a professional setting
• Proven sales experience with a track record of achieving sales goals
• Background in arts, entertainment or hospitality are preferred
• Knowledge of orchestral music desirable
• Proficiency in Microsoft programs and knowledge of Tessitura or other CRM system
• Flexible schedule and willingness to work nights and weekends to assist group as needed
• Ability to travel to clients. Must provide own transportation with driver’s license required
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to function effectively as part of a departmental team
• Ability to keep up with changing priorities, manage stress, work well under pressure and multi-task
