Job Title: Publications and Public Relations Coordinator

About this Position
Mainly Mozart is searching for a public relations and publications coordinator. This is an excellent entry-level position for a motivated individual who is interested in an exceptional opportunity to be a critical part of Mainly Mozart’s high profile and important work in the field of music and autism, and to further the profile of the finest festival orchestra in America.
The position is two faceted, with strong writing skills as a feature common to both.
As publications coordinator, this position will be key in developing a number of print pieces including concert programs, invitations, brochures, flyers and other pieces as needed.
As public relations coordinator the position acts as liaisons between Mainly Mozart and local, national, and international media through press releases and by contacting and establishing working relationships with reporters, producers, and editors in print and broadcast media. In addition, a particular focus of this position will be to establish strong connections between Mainly Mozart and local, national, and international communities and public-interest groups in the autism arena.
Under the direction of the Director of Marketing, the Publications and Public Relations Coordinator will focus on these areas:
• Write press releases
• Maintain media contact lists
• Establish and maintain relationships with print and broadcast media
• Establish and maintain relationships on behalf of Mainly Mozart with the Autism community
• Act as media representative/facilitator at all Mainly Mozart events
• Create of flyers, posters, and other materials as need
• Create of print ready concert programs
• Coordinate the printing and distribution of concert programs and other printed materials
• Write copy for concert programs
• Edit artists biographies for use in concert programs on for Mainly Mozart’s web site.
Other Duties as assigned by Director of Marketing
A 4-year bachelor’s degree in a PR-related area like journalism, marketing or communications, or equivalent experience, is required for this position.
Candidates ideally will have some experience with Adobe Photoshop and PageMaker and knowledge of classical music. In addition, individuals with a knowledge and understanding of the needs of the neuro-diverse community are strongly encouraged to apply.
Salary range is $35,000.00 to $40,000.00 per annum, negotiable commensurate with experience.
This position requires sitting at a desk or workstation, walking, standing, climbing stairs, hearing, speaking, being able to lift up to 40 lb. and able to drive to locations pertaining to organizational operations. In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification document form upon hire. This is a part-time position with work responsibilities on weekends and/or evenings to be determined with the supervisor.

Every year, the Mainly Mozart Festival gathers the greatest collection of orchestral players, consisted of concertmasters and principal players from major orchestras in North America. This conclave of musical champions comes together in San Diego every June for exclusive concerts at the Balboa Theatre. Music Director Michael Francis is guiding the orchestra in a six-year exploration of Mozart as a composer and personality.
