Music Theatre Wichita Finance Director

Music Theatre Wichita is seeking a Finance Director to join a dynamic, forward-looking team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting and have the ability to think strategically, leading the organization in financial forecasting and process improvement.

We are looking for someone who enjoys collaboration, has strong communication skills, and is experienced working with not-for-profit organizations. The Finance Director will join a staff of 12 (including one other finance staff member) in an organization that grew its team and offerings during the COVID-19 pandemic. The work location is currently hybrid, between the office and remote. MTWichita has a team-oriented approach and, at times, requires “all hands on deck” to achieve high standards for audiences and constituent groups.

Job Summary

The Finance Director has primary responsibility for Music Theatre Wichita’s financial operations including day-to-day accounting processes and financial reporting. In addition, this position interfaces with various board committees, including the executive and finance committees, leads the budgeting processes for the organization and ensures accurate tracking and reporting of MTWichita’s financial position.

Salary Range: $62,000-70,000 annually, dependent on experience. Benefits

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Leads Finance Department Operations
• Prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for management team, Finance Committee, and Board.
• Manages annual single external audit, 990 preparation, and state charitable registrations.
• Works collaboratively with other staff to develop and monitor organizational/ program budgets and forecasts.
• Coordinates the development and implementation of the annual capital and operating budgets as well as financial and credit policies.
• Participates in short- and long-term planning, providing financial information and context.
• Monitors cash flow and proactively seeks finance committee input on draws from Endowment, line of credit, etc.
• Assists with creation of grant budgets and reports.
• Monitors use of Endowment or other donor restricted funds where applicable.
• Develops financial processes and systems collaboratively with other staff to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
• Ensures compliance with GAAP, federal regulations, and grant requirements.

Performs a range of accounting duties
• Manages monthly close process.
• Manages accounts receivable and works with departments to ensure timely collection.
• Reviews general ledger accounts for accuracy and posting errors.
• Reconciles bank accounts and other balance sheet accounts.
• Maintains electronic and paper files and records in accordance with best practice retention standards.
• Oversight of financial assistant duties: o A/R and A/P o Corporate credit card statement reconciliations o Entry of deposits and activity in QB o Rental activity

Oversees bi-weekly payroll process
• Compiles and submits payroll through automatic deposit.
• Administrator of employee 401k plan.
• Monitors state and federal compliance requirements.

Provides supervision and leadership to finance staff and Board Committees
• Plans the work schedule to meet department demands and organizational priorities.
• Sets goals and objectives and monitors performance.
• Works proactively with Finance Committee chair and other board leadership to set and prepare for committee meetings.

Additionally, the Finance Director
• Attends Music Theatre Wichita shows and may serve as a manager on duty for some performances.
• Communicates courteously, professionally and maintains working relationships with others in carrying out job functions.
• Participates in developing and maintaining effective HR policies and ensures that personnel files meet retention and Department of Labor requirements.
• Administers organizational commercial insurance policies, including liability, property, and workers’ compensation.

Minimum Qualifications

The job requires 5+ years of experience in accounting, including financial reporting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger experience. Compliance experience required. Supervisory experience is preferred. A strong interest in the arts and musical theatre is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required for Successful Job Performance

• In-depth working knowledge of general accounting concepts and practices – GAAP.
• Knowledge and in-depth understanding of nonprofit finance practices, including foundation and government contracts, temporarily restricted funds, etc.
• Knowledge of and ability to operate accounting software and standard office hardware and software including databases and web-based software programs, including QuickBooks, Outlook, Excel, and Word.
• Integrity above reproach; ability to maintain highest confidentiality when dealing with sensitive or private information.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Ability to effectively organize time and anticipate, plan, and manage multiple priorities with deadlines.
• Verbal and written communication skills sufficient to effectively present information and respond to questions from a wide variety of audiences.
• Ability to learn new applications (experience with Monday.com for project management and Spektrix CRM is a plus).
