As a member of the TCG Publications Department, the Publications Associate, TCG Books, will provide vital editorial, research, and administrative support to the Editorial Director and Editor & Publishing Operations Manager, playing a key role in the production, promotion, and lifecycle management of both new and backlist titles. The Publications Associate should possess strong copyediting and proofreading skills as well as digital asset management skills. This hybrid position is based in New York City and requires regular in-person work at our NYC office. It is ideal for a detail-oriented, research-savvy individual with a strong interest in publishing and dramatic literature.
Responsibilities:
• Provide day-to-day editorial and administrative support to the Editorial Director and Editor/Publishing Operations Manager
• Assist with editorial work, including proofreading, fact-checking, eBook production, Library of Congress CIP application, and file management
• Research production history and critical reception of plays to help draft compelling jacket copy and contribute to sales kit development
• Collaborate with the Circulation & Sales Associate and the Director of Publications to manage book sales at theatres by checking whether the member theatres have Ingram accounts, tracking book inventory as well as productions of the plays published by TCG Books and partner publishers, and handling billing theatres for these book orders
• Assist Editor/Publishing Operations Manager with accruing data (covers, ISBNs, prices, descriptive copy, etc.) for new and existing TCG and Partner Publisher titles across Ingram platforms (CoreSource, iQ, etc.)
• Support the American Theatre play script selection process by assisting with new play research, reading, and communications
• Conduct rights research for third-party materials used in titles, applying for licensing when applicable, and managing paperwork and communications
• Draft TCG Books promotional copy for internal newsletters, funder and partner reports, and marketing campaigns, as well as for monthly publicity emails to the Ingram/CBSD sales staff.
• Assist the Circulation and Sales Associate in fulfilling book orders for members and non-members, institutions, and individuals
• Support as needed with off-site book sales at conferences, author events, and festivals
Qualifications:
• Successful candidates will have proofreading and copy-editing experience with close attention to detail and an eye for consistency across titles
• Adept at working both independently and with a team, and is committed to learning and personal professional growth
• Deft writer, capable of drafting quippy TCG Books marketing copy for a variety of audiences
• A track record of exemplary task management and organizational skills
• Possess a positive, entrepreneurial attitude and be able to work with diverse staff and constituents successfully.
• A knowledge of and deep appreciation for the arts and their important role in our society.
• Demonstrable experience and commitment to activating anti-racism, equity, and inclusive values, with the ability to apply these values in day-to-day work.
• Dedication and a deep commitment to fostering diverse and inclusive environments, working effectively across various identities, including gender expression, race, sexual orientation, religion, ability, age, class, and immigrant status.
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range for this position is $50,000–$55,000, with a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance; an Employee Assistance Program; life insurance; short-term and long-term disability; two weeks of vacation; and additional paid time off.
