The Heart of Art is seeking a creative and motivated Social Media Strategy & Management Intern to lead and elevate our digital presence. This individual will work closely with the Founder and collaborate with key board chairs to produce compelling outreach content that aligns with the organization’s mission and goals. Additionally, the intern will manage a small but mighty team of two Social Media Interns, helping coordinate content and strategy.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a graduate student or emerging professional with a background in marketing, communications, or nonprofit leadership to gain hands-on experience in strategic digital engagement while contributing to a powerful cause.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and execute a comprehensive social media strategy to support program outreach, donor engagement, and community building
Supervise and mentor two Social Media Interns, guiding content creation, scheduling, and analytics
Collaborate with the Founder and key Board Chairs (e.g., Community Engagement, Fundraising, Arts Programming) to design content that reflects the voice and vision of the organization
Oversee content calendars across platforms (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn), ensuring alignment with campaign goals
Create or approve compelling, on-brand content, including graphics, reels, and storytelling spotlights
Analyze social media performance metrics and recommend improvements
Help shape and refine HOA’s digital storytelling and brand voice
Qualifications
Graduate students in Arts Management, Marketing, Communications, or related fields strongly preferred
Prior experience managing projects or teams (internship or professional)
Strong knowledge of social media platforms, trends, and content strategies
Proficient in Canva, Meta Business Suite, or similar digital tools
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Self-starter with strong organizational and time-management skills
Passion for the arts, literacy, youth development, and social equity
Additional Details
This is a volunteer, unpaid internship position
Candidates should be located in or have ties to the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia) region
Requires a commitment of approximately 10 hours per week (schedule is flexible)
Internship runs for 6–12 months, with opportunity for renewal or growth
