Position: Production Manager

STAGES St. Louis is a 501©(3) not-for-profit theatre company, committed to preserving and advancing the art form of Musical Theatre through excellence in performance and education in the St. Louis region. In 2026 STAGES, will be celebrating its 40th year of producing Broadway-quality theatre, employs a full-time staff of twenty and a seasonal company from March to October, presenting 111 performances to nearly 50,000 patrons.
STAGES also educates thousands of students each year at its Performing Arts Academy, the St. Louis region’s only year-round arts school with a comprehensive curriculum run by a professional theatre company.
STAGES is seeking a Production Manager to lead the Production Department and supervise the implementation of the vision of the Artistic Team while remaining within the available resources of time, budget, and personnel. The Production Manager supervises three full-time staff employees year round, and oversees the operation of a production shop of 50-60 seasonal employees. They will oversee the operation of the 22,000 sq. ft. production shop. STAGES is currently performing at the Ross Family theatre located at the Kirkwood Performing Arts Center in Kirkwood, Missouri. All three mainstage productions are produced in this 529-seat house.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
• Collaborate with the Artistic Director, Executive Producer, Artistic General Manager, and Finance Department on budget development, staffing, and policy issues.
• Track and maintain the annual Operating Production Budget of around $1,000,000 throughout the fiscal year.
• Collaborate with Associate Producer, Finance Manager, and Artistic General Manager on duties such as, but not limited to, policy generation, hiring, firing, and mentoring of all Production Department employees.
• Hire, supervise, and lead the Technical Director, Costume Shop Manager, Assistant to the Production Manager, along with overseeing the hiring process of the seasonal production staff.
• Develop and maintain the Master Production Calendar with the Artistic General Manager.
• Be available to assist with any urgent production issues particularly during the Season.
• Serve as the liaison to other STAGES Departments to assist, coordinate, and deliver production services.
• Oversee maintenance of all shops in coordination with the Technical Director and Costume Shop Manager.
• Work with shop managers to create a positive, educational, safe, supportive, and productive work environment.
• Process and approve all production shop payroll with the Assistant to the Production Manager.
• Attend all management team meetings and maintain supportive collaboration with other Department leaders.
• Schedule production meetings as needed. Meet with designers to talk about budgets, schedules and production requirements.
• Review and approve all production expenses.
• Coordinate with the Assistant to the Production Manager to maintain company vehicle needs for Production, including rentals, up-keep, security, and operation for the production vehicles and any rental truck needs.
• Communicate all contract details for designers and all production staff with the Assistant to the Production Manager.
• Staff all STAGES’ events, including but not limited to STAGES fundraisers and donor events, appropriately and work events when needed.
• Coordinate Assistant to the Production Manager the oversight of rentals program and foster innovative ways to generate revenue.
Knowledge and Skills:
• Bachelor Degree in theatre or equivalent work experience in multiple technical fields.
• Five years of professional experience in production management, production stage management, or technical direction or combination thereof.
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite, especially Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Familiarity with unions including AEA, IATSE, USA, SDC, AFM.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Vectorworks. Understanding the use of lighting and audio systems. Ability to read and understand construction drawings.
• Experience working in an educational facility.
• Ability to estimate and manage budgets.

Compensation:
This is a full-time, year-round, exempt position. The salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. Benefits include year-round health/dental coverage, life insurance, and PTO, along with optional vision coverage, tax-saving flexible spending, and 401K.
