Teatro Vista, one of the country’s premier Latinx arts organizations, has initiated a search for its next Artistic Director. Teatro Vista is a leading Chicago-based theater company founded in 1990 by Edward Torres and Henry Godinez. It has dedicated itself to nurturing and presenting voices that explore the depth and breadth of the human experience from a Latina/o/x perspective. Teatro Vista’s ensemble of professional theater artists do so collectively through theater productions by commissioning and creating new and dynamic works. With numerous awards and accolades, Teatro Vista is seeking its next Artistic Director who, in partnership with its Ensemble, Board of Directors, and Managing Director, will set the artistic vision for Teatro Vista’s continued growth and service to its community. Teatro Vista is in the vanguard of Latinx theater in the United States, a place where Latina/o/x artists can expressively flourish and excel to the highest level of theatrical professionalism.

We are seeking an Artistic Director who is a dynamic, capable and collaborative leader who will build on the organization’s significant accomplishments and will help to envision Teatro Vista’s future direction and growth. As Teatro Vista completes its 30th year, the Artistic Director will be a strategic and entrepreneurial artistic visionary who will be a member of the Board of Directors and who will partner with key stakeholders, including the Ensemble, and Staff in exploring new opportunities and meeting new challenges with openness, to advance Teatro Vista to its next level of organizational and artistic achievements. The ideal candidate will begin their tenure in early July 2021.

Among the Artistic Director’s responsibilities will be:
Facilitating the process of evolving Teatro Vista’s overall artistic vision, and sheparding it into existence alongside the Ensemble;
Acting as lead advocate between members of the Teatro Vista Ensemble and Board of Directors;
Leading Teatro Vista’s season selection process in collaboration with the Ensemble;
Producing new work workshops and festivals throughout the season;
Identifying new and existing collaborators for new works and will prioritize identifying artists to join the Ensemble and members to expand the Board of Directors;
Facilitating the process of identifying Teatro Vista’s new mission and vision statements;
Building and fostering artistic relationships at the local, regional, and national levels;
Serving as a public spokesperson for Teatro Vista;
Establishing, in collaboration with Board and Managing Director, production and artistic budgets;
Participating in all fundraising activities and collaborating on grant writing, and on ideas and innovation in support of and in partnership with the Managing Director;
Acting as one of the lead representatives of Teatro Vista in the Chicago Latinx and wider arts communities;
Prioritizing Ensemble mentorship, regularly meeting with individual members and guiding them on their artistic and professional journeys;
Collaborating and partnering with the Managing Director to form a robust and successful executive leadership team;
Upholding, leading and managing the democratic process of decision making within the Ensemble;
Leading inspiring Ensemble meetings that inspire, amplify, elevate, challenge and evolve the work of Teatro Vista, the work of its Ensemble members, and expanding our work from a more intersectional lens.

Teatro Vista is seeking candidates with passion, commitment and vision. The Artistic Director will lead by example and will inspire staff and volunteers. The Artistic Director will balance tenacity and flexibility and will possess uncompromising ethics and humanity. The Artistic Director will have a compelling intersectional vision for Teatro Vista’s future.

The ideal candidate will possess a deep knowledge of various Latinx communities, both culturally and within the arts industry, locally and internationally. The Artistic Director should excel as a team member while balancing strong leadership skills that inspire through their commitment and strong communication. And they will be collaborative by nature, have a passion for developing new work in any capacity, and will thrive in creating and cultivating a transparent working culture with various access points for accountability within the ensemble, leadership, and the Board of Directors.

This is a full-time salaried position with an annual compensation range of $55K-$60K with fully paid medical, dental and vision benefits.  In addition, a generous PTO and personal leave package are also included.
