The Opportunity:
The Auburn Symphony seeks a dynamic individual who will be responsible for the overall management of the Auburn Symphony. Founded 38 years ago, we are Placer County’s premier community orchestra and boast approximately 70 of the most accomplished musicians in Northern California. We are a financially sound and growing organization that is passionate about our mission “to enrich and engage our community, across all generations, through the gift of music.”

Position Summary:
The Executive Director is responsible for the consistent achievement of the Auburn Symphony’s mission and financial objectives and oversees its day-to-day operations. The Executive Director coordinates with the Music Director to implement the season’s artistic vision.

Responsibilities:
Strategic Vision and Financial Oversight
• With the Board of Directors and Music Director, set priorities and goals for the organization.
• Oversee the financial operations of the organization, including managing the $500K annual budget
• Develop innovative ways to attract, welcome, and retain both veteran and new audiences.
• Ensure compliance with all government regulations; monitor legislative activity that may affect the organization.

Fundraising and Community Engagement
• Devote significant time and energy to fundraising, taking a leadership role in the identification, solicitation, and stewardship of gifts.
o Direct fundraising and donor stewardship events/activities in conjunction with the Board.
o Develop and maintain donor relationships, steward donors toward sponsorships, endowment fund donations, and legacy gifting.
• Execute and manage grant applications
• Manage relationships with external partner organizations across our region, and serve as the visible representative and spokesperson of the Auburn Symphony

Operational and Organizational Leadership
• Collaborate with the Music Director and Operations Manager to develop an annual master plan and calendar for symphony operations, including rehearsals, concerts, and special events.
• Oversee the following: Operations Manager, Business Manager, and Marketing/Social Media contractors
• Assist the Board in fulfilling its governance function; collaborate with Governance, Stewardship, Finance, HR, and Auburn Symphony on the Go committees
• Liaise with the “Auburn Symphony on the Go” Committee for community outreach programs
• Participate in arts advocacy consistent with the organization’s mission

Marketing and Communication
• Develop a marketing/advertising plan for the season to reach a variety of media outlets, community calendars and other sites.
o Oversee production of all publications, including season brochure, posters, programs, advertising, press releases and other materials
o Work with independent contractors, including Photographer, Social Media and Media consultants to promote concerts on social media and other media platforms.
• Ensure effective communications with Auburn Symphony stakeholders: musicians, patrons, volunteers, other arts organizations, public agencies, government agencies, and the general public.

Professional Development
• The Symphony values professional development for its staff, including online or in-person seminars, conventions, or events; staff development is in the annual budget.
• Keep abreast of best practices and activities in the orchestral field

Qualifications:
• Strategic, entrepreneurial, and visionary leader with exceptional financial acumen
• Impeccable professionalism, excellent interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills with colleagues, musicians, vendors, patrons and volunteers
• Highly self-motivated with superb organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to plan, prioritize, and handle multiple deadlines
• Minimum 3 – 5 years performing at a leadership level. Experience in arts or event management, non-profit and donor development highly desirable.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Business or Management or equivalent experience. Arts management education highly desirable.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, to attend board/committee meetings, rehearsals/performances, and events

Job Details:
• Reports to: Board of Directors
• Supervises: Business Manager, Operations Manager, Marketing/Social Media Contractors
• Status: Full Time, exempt
• Salary: Range is $70,000 – $78,000 commensurate with experience
• Benefits: Paid Vacation and Sick Leave
• Location: Office in Auburn/Hybrid
