The Executive Director, in close coordination with the Brevard Symphony Board of Directors & Conductor, provides leadership and vision to fulfill the Symphony’s mission and to ensure that the Brevard Symphony Orchestra achieves its goals for financial stability, artistic excellence, and community engagement. The Executive Director assumes responsibility for the management of all resources needed to achieve the orchestra’s mission. This position is responsible for overall day-to-day management of the Brevard Symphony Orchestra’s administrative, marketing, public relations, fundraising, planning and development, financial operations including a $800,000 budget, and other duties as assigned. The position reports to the Board Chairman and Board of Directors.

• Two years successful development experience
• Proven fund development and management experience. Demonstrated success in major gifts and planned giving
• Strong budgetary and fiscal management and reporting skills
• Interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with community partners, employees, board members and other stakeholders
• Public relations and marketing experience, including branding
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree
• Preferred management experience with an orchestra and administration

Development / Fundraising:
• Develop, implement and maintain a comprehensive philanthropy program
• Establish and maintain regular donors and sponsors
• Partner with Board and staff to cultivate potential donors and sponsors
• Identify prospects for grants and donations, lead application preparations, and manage any grants received in accordance with their provisions and requirements

• Work with the Board to plan and carry out events intended to raise funds, and/or increase the visibility of the Symphony in the community

• Serve as primary contact with the governmental and community partners
• Develop and implement systems and procedures that ensure organized, efficient and effective operations with maximum utilization of available resources
• Ensure accurate & timely record keeping including: financial, ticket sales, fundraising, grants, volunteers, schedules and prospects
• Maintain overall general office management to assure timely handling of correspondence, public inquiries, office coverage and general office activities
• Supervise, engage and employ necessary staff including administrative staff Administrative Assistant, Marketing Director, Sales Manager, Personnel Manager, and Music Librarian.), music librarian and personnel manager
• Attend relevant non-profit and industry related workshops, seminars, and conferences to increase knowledge and insight as approved by the Board

Marketing and Sales:
• Actively promote the orchestra locally and regionally
• Oversee ticket sales operations, development, and distribution
• Oversee and manage effective Symphony advertising and collateral materials
• Oversee research, develop and implement marketing plans for the organization’s branding, season ticket sales, single ticket sales and special events
• Ensure that all BSO documents, invitations and advertising reflect the organization’s commitment to quality
• Actively seek and secure multi-media marketing methods, using diverse, appropriate mediums
• Assist the Board in securing primary and secondary program sponsors for all performances
• Manage staff personnel to solicit advertisements for the orchestra’s program and other publications

Public Relations:
• Represent organization and support the Music Director and Board of Directors in the community
• Develop, establish and maintain effective relationships with local and regional media contacts to maximize exposure opportunities
• Develop, maintain manage positive, effective customer service

Concert / Special Events:
• Support the Music Director and Board committees with the planning, production and logistics of concerts and special events
• In collaboration with the Music Director, ensure the contracts and agreements with guest artists are negotiated and approved in timely manner
• Coordinate all arrangements necessary for the timely planning of the Orchestra’s performance schedule
• Attend concerts and special events
• Serve as liaison to orchestra regarding non-artistic matters
• Develop and implement strategies to increase revenue through sales of individual tickets and season ticket packages

Budget / Finance:
• With the Music Director, prepare and submit proposed yearly operating budgets to the Executive Committee and Board
• Maintain current and accurate financial records, monitor expenditures in accordance with budget and submit monthly financial statements to the Executive Committee and Board
• Ensure that grants are spent in accordance with guidelines and that reporting requirements are met

Board of Directors:
• Attend Board and Executive Committee meetings
• Help identify and recruit qualified candidates for Board membership
• Provide the information and tools needed by the Board to perform their duties
• Keep the Board abreast of trends, issues & opportunities; seek decisions from the Board on governance matters facing the orchestra
• Assist and support the Board with strategic planning

• Plan and implement all aspects of BSO education and outreach programs, including youth concerts, family concerts, school concerts, adult education, and volunteer programs. Assess effectiveness of each activity
• Cultivate and maintain professional relationships with the local school district, community colleges, and other education/civic institutions. Act as primary spokesperson for the BSO in education matters

About Brevard Symphony Orchestra

The Brevard Symphony Orchestra is celebrating sixty-five years of providing symphonic music to residents of Brevard County as the orchestra-in-residence at the King Center for the Performing Arts. The orchestra performs six Symphonic/Subscription concerts (nine performances), an outdoor Fourth of July concert, a Family Concert, Youth Concerts, and four concerts in Vero Beach, Florida. Melbourne is a vibrant and growing community, located on the Southeastern Atlantic Seaboard of Florida.
