Bringing modern and contemporary dance to Northeast Ohio

DANCECleveland’s mission is to bring the passion and verve of contemporary and modern dance to the hearts and minds of people in northeast Ohio. We accomplish this by:

  • Presenting an annual dance series of performances at Playhouse Square and across northeast Ohio, curated to highlight the breadth of the art form and to showcase nationally and internationally renowned choreographers and companies
  • Enhancing the performance experience with a series of programs designed to build a greater understanding of dance and the works being presented
  • Offering a wide range of creative educational programming, including masterclasses and the celebrated Read to Learn…Dance to Move literacy program for pre-k and kindergarten students.

As a curator, commissioner, and collaborator, DANCECleveland works to advance the art form of dance within our community. We are one of just a few stand-alone, dance-only presenters in the United States and are a resident company of Playhouse Square. Our 2021-22 season, a celebration of our 65th anniversary, promises to be a bold and inspiring return to live performance with engagements featuring Raphael Xavier, Monica Bill Barnes & Company, A.I.M, MOMIX, Pam Tanowitz Dance, and Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.

The Development Manager works with the Executive Director to develop and implement fundraising strategies that support DANCECleveland’s ongoing activities and our future dreams. The Development Manager is responsible for the management and execution of foundation, government, corporate, and individual fundraising efforts, including:

  • Preparing and managing foundation and government grants, including the creation of application packages, reporting, correspondence, and acknowledgment letters. The current workload ranges between 15-20 foundation grants and 6-9 government grants per year.
  • Prospect research and identification of potential corporate sponsorship, foundation, and government grant opportunities, as well as working with the Executive Director to create and implement strategies to pursue these opportunities
  • Managing the organization’s Annual Fund campaign, working with the Executive Director to establish an intentional and formalized individual giving program, and supporting fundraising activities for DANCECleveland’s endowment, the Advancing Dance Legacy Fund
  • Maintaining DANCECleveland’s development database, GiftWorks, as well as its grants calendar, grants management tools, and all grant-related records and materials
  • Serving as a liaison to the Development Committee of DANCECleveland’s Board of Directors, providing regular updates and supporting the committee’s needs and activities when necessary
  • Gift processing and acknowledgment correspondence to individuals, corporations, elected officials, and funders
  • Tracking and maintaining statistics and impact data for use in annual reports, grant reporting, and for submission to Data Arts
  • Managing donor/subscriber receptions, fundraising, and special events, and representing DANCECleveland at our regular performance series events
