Position Overview
HERE Arts Center seeks a Production and Technical Manager, who will work in partnership with the Production and Facilities Manager to oversee, manage, and execute all aspects of HERE’s facilities and production activities.

The Production and Technical Manager will specifically provide leadership and direct labor on executing the production management of shows and events that are part of HERE’s season, with the exception of specific projects that fall in the purview of the Production and Facilities Manager. This role is expected to have strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to hold a creative understanding of artists’ work in order to best support the technical execution of various creative projects. Ideally, this role has strong skills and experience in all areas of technical theater, with an emphasis on audio and video production.

Annual Salary: $65,000 + HERE’s standard benefits
Hours: 40 hours per week, with frequent evening and weekend hours expected
Paid: biweekly on Fridays
Status: Exempt

Shared responsibilities, in collaboration with the Production and Facilities Manager:

General Operations
• Equipment Oversight – Maintain comprehensive knowledge of HERE’s equipment inventory and expert understanding of its applications
• Staffing Coordination – Collaborate on production staffing to ensure all needs are met across productions, events, rentals, and building requirements
• Space Scheduling – Coordinate scheduling for all rehearsals, performances, rentals, and special events in HERE spaces
• Site Visits – Host prospective artists and renters, providing welcoming and thorough facility overviews and addressing technical specification questions for both theaters
• Event Support – Attend HERE opening night events to provide production oversight and help create a welcoming atmosphere for artists, board members, and the public
• Accessibility & Inclusion – Work collaboratively with HERE staff to ensure goals of accessibility and belonging are met throughout the HERE environment and experience

Responsibilities specific to the Production and Technical Manager include but are not limited to:

Production Management:
• Plan, budget, and technically manage productions and events in HERE’s season, with the exception of projects within the Dream Music Puppetry program and the HERE annual gala, while working closely with artists and creative teams
• Partner with Lead Producers on production budget management, expense compilation and submission, and budget reconciliation support
• Collaborate with creative teams and Production and Facilities Manager to purchase, rent, and acquire scenic, lighting, video, and sound elements
• Create and oversee load-in and tech schedules for all season productions and events
• Schedule and hire production-specific personnel including hourly labor, subcontracted technical staff, board operators, production assistants, and production-specific interns

Technical Operations & Maintenance:
• Oversee repair and maintenance of facility and technical equipment, including lighting, video, and sound systems
• Create and maintain current general ground plans and standard light plots for both theaters.
• Maintain physical presence on-site for critical technical production dates including load-in, strike, technical rehearsals, and previews
• Provide direct technical support by overseeing and assisting with installation of scenic, lighting, sound, video, and other production elements in collaboration with production teams
• As needed, support Production and Facilities Manager in offering technical support for season shows not production managed by HERE, including troubleshooting and providing access to materials, equipment, and facilities

Systems and Safety Management:
• Have a working knowledge of Production Department systems, organization, policies, and procedures.
• Be prepared to execute HERE’s emergency protocols and accident documentation procedures
• Must have or be prepared to obtain the following certifications: F-3 (Fire Guard), S-95 (Supervision of Fire Alarm Systems), E-06 (Special Effects, Smoke/Haze) and C-15 (Flame Retardant Treatment).

Required Qualifications:
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in working as a production manager for live performance.
• Excellent communications skills
• Must be self-directed and able to work independently but must also be able to work collaboratively with a diverse range of staff and artists.
• Proficiency with VectorWorks/ AutoCAD, Google Suite
• Experience with audio and visual production and equipment
• Basic electrician skills

Preferred Qualifications:
• Valid driver’s license
• Basic rigging and construction skills for theatrical performance
• Experience working specifically with performing arts organizations or experimental/contemporary arts venues
• Bilingual capabilities

Compensation & Benefits:
