JOB TITLE: Leadership Gifts Officer
REPORTS TO: Director of Development
JOB SUMMARY: Supports the strategic fundraising efforts of The Austin Symphony Orchestra (ASO) operating unit by designing, implementing, evaluating and refining appropriate activities, with an emphasis on building gifts to achieve organization targets. Collaborate with other areas
of ASO to achieve goals through personal connections, cultivate patrons and donors, solicits through media, and stewarding of prospects. Develop collaborative relationships with development colleagues and ASO constituents by coordinating joint solicitation efforts, improving internal processes and procedures, and partnering with marketing to build outreach efforts for multiple development programs and initiatives.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Identifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards gift donors and prospects including individuals, corporations, and/or foundations, through visits and other forms of direct personal contact in accordance with performance targets set in collaboration with the ASO Development team.
● Raise $1M in individual Leadership Gifts by the culmination of the fiscal year
● Establishes and maintains collaborative working relationships with the ASO Leadership, development colleagues, and appropriate stakeholders and/or other constituents to improve the opportunity: total donation revenue, plan solicitation strategies, and leverage joint solicitation efforts.
● Prepare appropriate solicitation presentations and lead presentations with engaging enthusiasm.
● Assist and support: pre/post-concert events, stewardship meet and greets, appreciation parties, and other activities associated with donors, patrons and volunteers.
● Build and facilitate short- and long-range strategic planning activities to create and implement fund-raising goals and objectives that directly align with other ASO initiatives and concerts.
● Make effective use of ASO’s CRM database, wealth management tools and other institutional resources. Document all appropriate donor notes, prospect progress, SYBUNT/LYBUNT re-connections, and volunteers (WSL). This could include plans, profiles, and updates for interest in giving opportunities which meet ASO targets and goals.
● Researches, writes, edits, and/or oversees the preparation of persuasive, accurate, and grammatically and syntactically correct solicitations, proposals, case statements, reports, correspondence, and other development-related communication materials in support of the unit’s fund-raising activities.
● Utilize available resources to assist with maintaining documents, database updates or changes. Guarantee all documents are added to CRM for updating and reference.
● Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

● Demonstrated ability in securing grants and gifts from individuals, corporations, foundations, and other private funding sources.
● Demonstrated ability in planning and implementing long- and short-range development initiatives in conjunction with strategic planning processes.
● Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with academic leadership, faculty, prospects, donors, and/or volunteers in a wide range of roles.
● Ability to conduct research, gather data, analyze information, and prepare effective, accurate, and timely reports and other documents to support development objectives.
● Database management skills.
● Ability to exercise good judgment, to demonstrate an understanding of ethics related to development activities, and to use discretion in interactions with donors, prospects, volunteers, and others.
● Demonstrated organizational skills and experience in managing events and other complex activities in support of development objectives.
● Ability to foster effective working relationships within a team environment.
● Community relations skills and the ability to communicate and work effectively within a diverse community.
● Program planning and leadership skills.
● Highly developed verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present effectively to small and large groups.
● Leadership in development, coordination and implementation of strategies targeted at high-level donor base prospects for future sustained giving
● Facilitation of collaborative relationships with various constituents to enhance ASO’s fundraising efforts
● Direct identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of leadership gift donors and prospects
● Facilitation of events or appeals with assistance or ASO staff or volunteers in the execution of development activities
● Ability to excel both in independent tasks and team-based activities.
● Bachelor’s degree; minimum of seven (7) to ten (10) years of documented development donor experience for a $3M to $5M nonprofit annual budget; include at least one sample of an appeal including tracking to goal
● Average to advanced Microsoft Office Suite experience; able to perform simple searches, pivot tables, merges and formatting in Excel
● Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with ability to clearly communicate issues to all levels of management, comfortable meeting with general public, patrons, volunteers, and donors
● Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to create data driven conclusions and presentations
● Follow-through to complete tasks; Prioritize deliverables; Accommodate changes or modifications to task(s) as the environment shifts
● Strong organizational skills with keen attention to detail (spelling, punctuation, calendaring).
● Preferred experience with Tessitura or other complex database (Razor’s Edge, Blackbaud, Sales Force, etc…); recommended three (3) years
