Job Description: Artistic Director
Position Summary
The Artistic Director will be the creative and strategic leader of MBT, responsible for shaping and advancing the artistic vision, programming, and community engagement efforts. The Artistic Director will serve as a public ambassador for the organization and work collaboratively with staff, board, and artists to ensure mission-aligned excellence across all artistic offerings. This is a full-time position with benefits, including tuition remission for the AD and their immediate family—salary range: $80,000 – $100,000.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement a compelling artistic vision and long-term programming strategy.
Oversee selection and curation of all productions, projects, and collaborations.
Direct and choreograph MBT’s production of The Nutcracker, annual spring ballet, and end-of-year performance.
Build and maintain strong relationships with artists, directors, designers, and community partners.
Collaborate with executive leadership and board on strategic planning and organizational direction.
Ensure diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility principles are embedded in artistic decision-making.
Support fundraising efforts through donor engagement and grant proposals.
Serve as a public spokesperson and advocate for the organization’s artistic work.
Manage and mentor artistic and production staff.
Teach up to 10 hours per week.
Qualifications
Proven experience as an artistic leader in a professional or community arts setting; 5-7 years preferred.
A deep understanding of and passion for classical ballet, contemporary, and diverse performing arts.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.
Experience with budgeting, planning, and organizational leadership.
Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and community-centered engagement.
Ability to inspire and lead a diverse team of artists and staff.
