Department Summary
The Oregon Bach Festival is an acclaimed music performance series presented by the University of Oregon School of Music and Dance, with representation from the community through the advisory Board of Directors. The Grammy Award-winning Oregon Bach Festival is recognized nationally and internationally as a premier performing arts organization which annually presents and produces approximately 50 performances of major choral-orchestral works, instrumental and chamber concerts, solo recitals, lectures, a children’s series, master classes for professional musicians, an 11-day intensive study and choral performance program (a.k.a. Stangeland Family Youth Choral Academy) for high school-aged singers from across the U.S. and a daily classical music program for K-5 students. The administrative offices of the Festival operate year-round for the purpose of planning, organizing, administering, and marketing each year’s program, which includes the hiring and management of about 350 artists. Other major administrative areas include securing funds through private and business donations and public and private sector grants, the business management of the organization (annual budget of approx. $2.7 million) and publicizing, marketing, and promoting the Festival.

Position Summary
The Director of Artistic Administration and Operations (DAAO) is responsible for overseeing the administrative staff of seven, hiring and coordinating the schedules of all musicians and performing groups for Oregon Bach Festival (OBF), hiring and supervising all temporary technical staff, maintaining the rehearsal and performance calendar, and coordinating all operations related to concert production. The DAAO prepares and monitors fiscal budgets for all artistic and production areas and collaborates with OBF’s Advisory Board and senior leadership team to develop strategic goals. The DAAO reports to the Associate Dean of Finance and Operations in the School of Music and Dance and supervises the Director of Education Programs and dually supervises the Director of Marketing and Communications and Associate Director of Development and approximately ten temporary staff during the Festival. This position serves as a member of the Dean’s Leadership Team.

During the performance season, this position will require evening and weekend work.

Minimum Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Music or related field
• Music performance experience
• Five years of arts administration experience

Professional Competencies
• Strong budget skills and a proven track record balancing artistic desires with fiscal needs
• Knowledge of the classical music industry including keeping up with current trends and knowledge of choral/orchestral repertoire
• Calm under pressure and a skilled communicator with the ability to work in local, national, and international artistic environments
• Skilled at negotiating contracts and managing budgets
• Good time management skills and ability to prioritize
• Ability to embrace collaboration and be flexible in dealing with unpredictable pressures and a variable flow of work activity with a small administrative staff
• Experience with historically informed practice
• Knowledge of and experience with touring ensembles and in booking non-classical groups
• Knowledge of and experience with artist fees and technical riders
• Ability to serve as an advocate for the Festival in the community, to artists, and the media
• Open-minded with excellent oral and written communication skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and the use of databases
• Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations

Preferred Qualifications
• Master of Music degree
• Experience with QuickBase
• Experience with automated music notation applications (such as Finale)
• Knowledge of and experience with international standards of vocal and instrumental performance
• Industry knowledge of best practices, successful programming, and potential guest artistic collaborations in national and international markets
