According to CNN, “Richmond is No. 1 on the list thanks to rich arts, culture and history, plus a great food and beverage scene.”
What exactly would I do?
As the Advancement Assistant, you will embody the Symphony’s core values of inclusion, passion, quality, innovation and welcoming. Your days may be spent managing the donor database, managing bank deposits, doing data entry, completing prospect research, or creating and pulling reports on donor data. Each week you will find yourself drafting customized acknowledgement letters and working to ensure donors feel thanked and appreciated for their support of the Symphony. You will be the hub of the department, managing team meetings, tracking action items, scheduling external meetings, developing collateral and helping create presentation materials. Several evenings or weekends each month will find you attending a Symphony concert, stewardship activity or fundraising event to help manage logistics, engage with patrons and manage details around donor lounge or build relationships.
What qualifications and skills do I need?
Highly developed organizational skills, effective time management and flexibility are key attributes. Familiarity in computer applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google calendar is required, knowledge of or experience in a CRM (Customer Relationship management tool) or donor database would be a real asset. Compelling writing skills are critical to success, along with the ability to communicate through storytelling to a diverse set of stakeholders. Some lifting is required, and the ability to travel to and from different venues and events is required. You must be available to work a robust schedule of evening and/or weekend performances and events throughout the season.
