Job Title: Director of Finance
Location: San Francisco, CA; Hybrid
Reports to: Executive Director

Position Summary:

The San Francisco Girls Chorus (SFGC) is seeking a Director of Finance to oversee the financial health of the organization. This position offers the candidate an opportunity to transform and consolidate the finance department into a unified division within the organization. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Finance role manages budgeting, forecasting, financial planning and analysis (FP&A) and reporting to support strategic decision making. This person regularly informs the SFGC Board of Trustees and its relevant committees of the financial activities and status of the organization. The ideal candidate will understand the challenges of a 501(c)(3) arts organization and embrace our mission to prepare and empower young choristers from diverse backgrounds for success on stage and in life. The Director of Finance will coordinate with the Data & Finance Manager and Director of Administration to inform and guide SFGC toward long-term financial success.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serve as the organization’s primary strategist for financial planning, accounting policies, internal controls, and compliance – ensuring fiscal responsibility while supporting our mission and the structure of a Not-For-Profit.
Collaborate with the Executive Director, Artistic Director, and Director of Administration to develop the annual budget, while monitoring trends and the overall fiscal health of SFGC.
Advise department heads in the development and implementation of SFGC’s long-range plan, including strategic, artistic, and operational initiatives, ensuring alignment with financial objectives and organizational efficiency.
Oversee and ensure accuracy of core financial operations, including payroll processing, journal entries, accounts payable, bank and credit card reconciliation, tax filings, and general bookkeeping.
Manage and coordinate the annual audit process, working closely with the external auditors to ensure timely and accurate completion.
Supervise the Data & Finance Manager providing guidance and performance management.
Prepare and present financial reports and analyses for the ED, Finance Committee, and Board of Directors offering insight and recommendations.
In collaboration with the ED, manage and oversee Kanbar Center tenants, ensuring lease compliance and coordination of building use, as well as oversee capital improvements.
Provide accurate and timely financial information as needed for grants, reports, surveys, and other required submission.
Serve as the primary liaison with financial institutions including banks, brokers, and investment advisors ensuring effective management of all SFGC accounts.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or a related field.
7+ years in finance or progressive financial leadership and accounting experience and a minimum of 2 of those years within a non-profit setting.
Ability to project information and effectively communicate with leadership, stakeholders, investors and vendors.
Proficiency in financial software (e.g. Microsoft Excel formulas, Quick Books)
Proven experience in budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis
Strong understanding of databases/systems – experience with Salesforce non-profit CRM a plus
Experience in building management.
Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and complex details simultaneously.
Proven ability to handle sensitive and confidential with discretion and professionalism
WHAT WE OFFER:
Salary range: $100,000-130,000, depending upon experience

About the Organization
Established in 1978, the San Francisco Girls Chorus prepares girls and young women from diverse backgrounds for success, on stage and in life, through rigorous, empowering music education, and enriches Bay Area cultural life through innovative vocal performance.
Each year, more than 450 girls, young women, and gender-expansive youth from 45 Bay Area cities ranging in age from 4 – 18 participate in the SFGC’s programs. The organization has an annual operating budget of approximately $2.7M, with 8 full time staff, 15 part-time staff, and a board of 10 and growing.
Over its 45+ year history, the SFGC has won five GRAMMY Awards, and toured to such illustrious venues as Lincoln Center, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and at Carnegie Hall. SFGC is an active collaborator in our vibrant arts community, and performs regularly with premiere organizations such as the San Francisco Opera, San Francisco Symphony, San Francisco Film Festival, and Kronos Quartet.
SFGC owns and operates the Kanbar Performing Arts Center, which has become a hub for small to mid-size arts organizations in the Bay Area. In addition to SFGC’s own rehearsal and performance programs, the Kanbar Center provides long-term leased office space and rehearsal space for a variety of respected arts and culture organizations.
