SMARTS, Students Motivated by the Arts

Position Description: The SMARTS Education Director will work directly with the SMARTS
President to creatively design and coordinate day-to-day activities of quality arts education programming with teachers, students, partners, schools, and/or youth organizations during and after school. The SMARTS Education Director is responsible for the pedagogy, educational philosophy, and vision for all programming including SMARTS activities and classes held on-site and out in the community at various schools, youth organizations, arts and culture organizations, and/or SMARTS partners during and after school.

Mental Demand: Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, flexibility, creative problem solving, and ability to synthesize information into the larger picture.

Character of Supervision: Consult with the President in the hiring/releasing of program teachers and staff, oversee and evaluate their work. Serve in a leadership role with program teachers and staff. Work collaboratively with the SMARTS Leadership Team and facilitate all programming.

Independence: Must be able to work independently and in a group.

Environment: Expected to create an environment where all children and adults are welcome and accepted.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
▪ Provides creative leadership for SMARTS quality arts education public and community programming, pedagogy, educational philosophy, and vision.

▪ Must understand arts teaching and learning including interdisciplinary arts curriculum, early arts education, arts integration for PK-12 students, evaluation and professional development for teachers.

▪ Manages and supervises day-to-day activities of public and community programming.

▪ Oversees all program operations including Elvanto, Google Drive, Virtual SMARTS, and premier programs.

▪ Creates programming schedules in alignment with calendar and funding operations, and manages budgets for those programs.

▪ Assists Program Managers and teachers in developing classroom curriculum following state standards, observing instruction, providing feedback, and offering support.

▪ Recruits and manages teachers under the supervision of the President.

▪ Provides leadership for community engagement.

▪ Oversees schedules teachers for public and community programming and contracts for teachers.

▪ Implements and oversees pre/post assessments and is the lead person on program reports and data.

▪ Works with President to develop content for website, events, grants, and marketing materials that communicate information about SMARTS programming, mission, vision, and educational philosophy.

▪ Works with President to establish systems, protocols, and teacher pay.

▪ Responsible for information to complete monthly payroll and billing.

▪ Assists President in seeking additional funding sources through grant research, writing, and inquiry.

▪ Oversees the maintenance of classrooms, supplies, equipment, teacher resources, and technology.

▪ Serves as a liaison to SMARTS families, teachers, students, partners, schools, and/or youth organizations.

▪ Works with SMARTS President and staff to work within SMARTS Budget.

▪ Designs, plans, and oversees professional development and SMARTS events.

▪ Must be able to substitute for SMARTS teachers.

▪ Meets weekly with SMARTS President and Staff when applicable.

▪ Must follow SMARTS Dress Code.

Other Functions & Responsibilities: Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervision Exercised: Oversees SMARTS Public and Community programming under the direction of the SMARTS President.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and Ohio teaching certification with a minimum of five years of professional experience in visual art, music, dance, theater, writing, and/or education. Will require a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends. Must have an understanding of basic software packages to include Microsoft Office, Google Drive, and a working knowledge of database programs. Valid driver’s license and BCI/FBI background check.

Desired Qualifications: Excellent communication, interpersonal, management, writing, and creative skills. Self-motivated, innovative, and team-oriented with the ability to organize, work with others, and multitask. Arts teaching experience in a PK-12 setting with certification.

Physical Requirements: Occasional lifting required; must be able to move and transport minimum
