Position Summary:
The Groundlings Theatre & School is seeking an experienced, highly organized, and
collaborative General Manager to oversee day-to-day theatre operations, including production
management, front-of-house services, technical oversight, and cross-department coordination.
The ideal candidate should have strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of live
performance logistics, and a passion for creating positive experiences for both audiences and
staff.

Key Responsibilities:
Operations & Staff Management
– Supervise and support the Box Office, Technical Production, and Marketing Departments.
– Ensure seamless execution of all performances, rentals, and events at the theatre.
– Work with the Managing Director on annual scheduling of shows.
– Book all independent shows and communicate logistics across all stakeholders.
– Collaborate with the School Director to align scheduling and operational needs between the school and theatre.
– Coordinate and oversee all school shows to ensure all logistics are covered and any scheduling conflicts are resolved.

Technical & Production Oversight
– Work closely with the Tech Production Manager and Tech Coordinator to support tech staff and musicians.

Front-of-House & Guest Services
– Supervise the Box Office to ensure a welcoming, efficient, and safe environment for
guests.
– Oversee Tessitura (our ticketing system), box office policies, and customer service
procedures.
– Ensure staff are trained in hospitality, safety, and accessibility protocols.

Marketing, Digital Stage & Media Coordination
– Work in partnership with the Marketing Manager to execute campaigns that promote
shows, classes and institutional branding.
– Oversee the operations, scheduling, exhibition and distribution of The Groundlings’ digital content on platforms including YouTube, Vimeo, website content and other social media platforms.
– Maintain the integrity, organization, and accessibility of the digital archives, including booking of content filming, past filmed content and performance records.
– Manage the digital archives, including booking of new content and organization of past filmed
content.
– Coordinate and liaise with the Artistic Directors to ensure a cohesive and updated presence across all digital platforms that reflects the Groundlings voice and artistic identity. This includes the designing of social media assets and posters

Cross-Departmental Collaboration
– Coordinate with the Artistic Directors, Business Development Manager and School
Director on shared initiatives.
– Communicate departmental needs, budgets, and challenges to the Managing Director.
– Maintain clear, proactive communication across departments to support mission-driven work.

Qualifications:
– 5+ years of experience in theatre or live performance management, operations, or
production.
– Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to manage and motivate diverse
teams.
– Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and time management abilities.
– Familiarity with technical theatre, box office systems, and front-of-house operations.
– Comfortable working flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
– Passion for the performing arts and the mission of The Groundlings.
