The Senior Technical Designer of TTS Studios is primarily responsible for managing the technical design department including developing fabrication, construction, and drafting plans for the projects produced at TTS Studios and managing a team of technical designers (currently two). This position is responsible for creating or delegating 3D models and 2D construction plates to the Technical Design Team. The Technical Design Manager is responsible for considering the scope of the project and for interpreting the design intent to create the best construction plan possible based on the budgetary and schedule constraints of the project. They also work with the Project Managers and Director of Production to provide accurate, efficient plans for the different fabrication departments and are responsible for the creation and maintenance of all modeling, drafting, and CNC programming standards. The Senior Technical Designer reports directly to the Director of Projects.

Hours: Monday through Friday onsite, 8:00am to 4:30pm; 40 hours of work expected per week

Duties:
Manage and Supervise the Technical Design department (2 full time members and 2 part time, remote members) and proactively assign tasks to the team based on project information and schedule
Assign due dates to the Technical Design team based on the overall shop schedule and in conjunction with the project-specific schedule
Develop and implement material and construction choices per project based on information from Project Management and feedback from the Director of Projects
Create 3d models and work-out engineering challenges to either turn into construction drawings or to delegate to the Technical Design team
Continuously and consistently work towards improving processes and standards
Drafting standards, cad templates, block library, etc.
Works with client/designer as needed per request by the Project Manager and Director of Projects
Work with other departments to explore/experiment with new products and materials
Review completed models before the technical design team creates construction drawings
Review construction drawings before they are released to the shop
Lead project engineering meetings
Collaborate with Director of Projects, Project Managers and Director of Production to navigate the parameters of the project and how best to construct assets
Assist in creating and maintaining all shop processes and standards as they relate to how things are made
Lead part standards creation
Supervise storage, distribution, and collection of all drawings for each project via cloud-based storage and physical documents
Supervise health of plotter and printer to prevent disruption of drawing flow to the shop
Supervise, delegate, or create closeout documents per project
Coordinate with outside Structural or Mechanical Engineers as needed per project
Participate in standard meetings (kickoff meetings, staff meetings, engineering meetings, postmortems, etc.)
Lead or participate in site surveys as needed

Requirements:
Proficiency in 3D CAD (AutoCAD preferred)
No less than 5 years of experience in technical design in the entertainment industry
High attention to Detail
Hands-on experience fabricating, assembling, and installing assets
Ability to self-manage as well as delegate and work with others productively
Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects at the same time
Understanding of mechanical and electrical components
Understanding of sheet materials including plywood (various species, etc.), hardwoods, plastics, foams, etc.
Understanding of construction application techniques including wood, steel, aluminum, plastics, etc.
Experience programming for CNC equipment

Preferred:
Experience using project management software such as Asana
Proficiency in Microsoft Office
Proficiency in Google Drive
Experience with conducting site surveys

Location:
North Charleston, South Carolina. While in-person work is highly desirable for this role, we are open to considering hybrid or fully remote arrangements for the right candidate.

Compensation:
Starting at $35/hr, with opportunities for higher compensation based on experience and expertise. Relocation stipend may be available.
